Born in Salmon Arm, BC, on July 13, 1988, Mitchell grew up surrounded by mountains, lakes, and the quiet strength of the Shuswap—roots that shaped his work ethic, determination, and lifelong love of the outdoors. He was raised by his mother, Lynn, whose strength and devotion guided him throughout his life. Mitch shared his childhood with his sisters Jordyn and Lyndsay, and his half-sister Miranda, and his Uncle Marty and Auntie Nona all helping form bonds and memories that remained an important part of who he was.
Mitchell lived his life with intensity, purpose, and heart. He approached everything he did with grit. Whether in academics, athletics, his career, or the passions he poured himself into, Mitch’s drive and commitment consistently set him apart.
He graduated from Salmon Arm Secondary School before moving to Calgary to attend SAIT on a basketball scholarship. Mitchell excelled both on the court and in the classroom, graduating with high honours.
His ambition then led him to Montana Tech, where he pursued a degree in Petroleum Engineering. True to his character, he earned summa cum laude, yet opted not to purchase the ceremonial $200 graduation scarf—deciding with a grin that the money was better spent on a student seasons pass at the Highland Golf Course.
Mitchell built an impressive career in the oil and gas industry, recognized for his leadership, integrity, and technical expertise. He worked with several respected companies in Calgary, ultimately becoming the Vice President of Drilling and Completions at Allied Energy II Corp. His colleagues knew him as a brilliant engineer, a thoughtful mentor, and someone who could always be counted on.
A Love Like No Other
In 2014, Mitchell’s life changed forever when he met Robyn at the Banff Winterstart Race. Their first date followed soon after at his Christmas party at the Banff Springs Hotel—an evening filled with laughter, chemistry, and a dance floor that quickly became theirs. From that night on, dancing together became a signature of their love, often clearing entire floors with the joy they brought to each other.
Mitch proposed to Robyn on the Alberta–BC border, a symbolic place representing where each of them was born. It was a moment full of intention, meaning, and love, and it set the foundation for the life they would build together. The two were married for seven amazing—though far too short—years, sharing a partnership defined by devotion, playfulness, and unwavering support.
Their relationship was the kind of love story people talk about: rare, magnetic, and deeply rooted in shared passions. Mitch and Robyn spent their days hiking, fishing, hunting, and golfing—always together, always adventuring. During this time, Mitch also formed a cherished bond with Robyn’s brother, Brady, a friendship that grew into a brotherhood.
His Outdoor Spirit
Mitch was never more at home than in the mountains or on the water. He had a deep passion for bow hunting elk, a pursuit that demanded the discipline, patience, and instinct that came naturally to him. He treasured the challenge of sheep hunting in the high country—long climbs, quiet ridgelines, and the feeling of becoming part of the landscape. Fishing brought him equal joy, whether casting from a boat, a riverbank, or sharing the stillness of an early morning on the water. And when he wasn’t in the backcountry, he could almost always be found on the golf course, spending countless hours practicing, refining, and happily chasing the perfect swing. The outdoors was his sanctuary, his playground, and the place where he felt most himself.
Devoted Father
One of Mitch’s proudest roles began in October 2021, when he became a father to their son Ryker. Fatherhood expanded his heart in ways he never imagined. In August 2023, shortly after moving to their dream property near Water Valley—affectionately known as the Rabbitt Family Farm—their family grew again with the arrival of their daughter Kylie, who instantly became her Daddy’s girl. Mitch adored his children beyond measure. He cherished early mornings with Ryker, little adventures around the acreage, and the way Kylie’s tiny hands reached for him as if he hung the moon. His family was his greatest joy and the centre of his world.
Legacy
Beyond accomplishments, titles, and degrees, Mitchell will be remembered most for his loyalty, his quiet humour, his humility, and his fierce love for the people in his life. He carried a big heart, a strong moral compass, and a deep connection to the land—whether he was in the mountains, on the water, or at home with those he loved most.

Our most sincere condolences to Robyn and family in this difficult time. Mitch's smile was a ray of light in any setting, whether it be work or fun times. And it defined his love for work, and having his efforts shown in a job well done and a few more barrels squeezed out of everything he touched. Those barrels are inconsequential at this difficult time, but a memory that will live on in me forever, and define the Mitch that I knew.
Cindy Lundy & Ron Welsh:
We are so saddened for your beautiful family and will be thinking of you all with love.
Cole Sanderson:
My condolences go out to Mitch’s family and friends during this difficult time. As a young engineering intern entering the oil and gas sector, I was fortunate to have Mitch as a mentor and leader. His guidance helped me grow both personally and professionally, and the lessons he shared will remain with me throughout my career. I will always remember Mitch for his supportive nature, cheerful spirit, and the encouragement he gave to those around him. His impact will not be forgotten.
Dave and Johanna Jenkins :
So sad for your loss Robin. It was terribly special to have Johnny bring Mitch out Prince George way to hunt for several falls. They we're quite the pair and every moose and bear in our hunting area had to be on high alert. There is a special section of beach on the Cheslaslie Arm that will now be known as Mitch's Beach
Justin Wolf:
