Obituary

WALTER KENNETH SKOVEN
JULY 26, 1936 - MAY 14, 2026

Walter passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at the Park Avenue Ravines in Rocky Mountain House.
Walter was born in Leslieville, to Christine and Sven Skoven. He joined his sister Marie to complete the family.
His childhood was spent on the family farm north of Leslieville. He took his schooling at Washington Heights School, just north of their farm. Walter went to work at age 15 in a bush camp. Walter took over the family farm and remained there until his move to the Ravines. During this time, he operated heavy equipment for many years starting with Standard General as a paver operator, then went on to drive caterpillar working for local construction companies.
He met the love of his life, Aldonna Luyckfasseel in 1965 at a wedding dance at the Bingley Hall. They were married in 1968 and had two children, Collene and Christine. Walter and Aldonna had a mixed farming operation also, while Walter was working out. Walter retired from construction and became a full-time farmer until his failing health caused them to sell the cattle. Walter built a fishpond, which the girls and him loved to spend time at. They had a raft they floated out on to feed the fish, and it was always good for a laugh. Walter enjoyed life on the farm, and they always had the coffee pot on for the many neighbours and friends who would stop by for a visit.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Aldonna, his daughter Christine Skoven, son-in-law Greg Waters, Grandchildren: Tyler and Julia Waters. Also by Grandchildren: Grady Kleinschroth-Skoven, Avery Skoven-Kleinschroth and Bailey Skoven-Kleinschroth (and their dad Desmond Kleinschroth.)
He is predeceased by his daughter Collene in 2021 and sister Marie in 2019.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in Walter’s name.
