Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great grandma, great great grandma, and sister Eva Evangeline Kruger of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
Mrs. Eva Evangline Kruger (nee Ginther) passed away with family by her side on April 15, 2026, in Red Deer Alberta at the age of 87.
Eva was born in Gould town, Saskatchewan (19 kms North of Herbert) on July 3, 1938, to Agatha and Peter Ginther. Eva was the second oldest of 9 children.
She met and married the love of her life Eugene Kruger and while raising their first-born Louise they moved around following the oil rigs. In 1959 she had their first son Kevin. Shortly after they settled in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta where they started the first tank truck business, Kruger’s Oilfield Services. Shortly after moving to Rocky, she had their last son Brian. Eva was a hard-working woman, she could be found in the garden, helping on the farm, being hands on building their homes, sitting countless hours at the dinning room table typing up invoices and answering phones for the company, in the kitchen teaching loved ones to can, make bread/buns, pies, perogies, watermelon cookies and her favorite chocolate cake, but above all spending time with the ones she loved dearly.
After semi-retiring from the oilfield, they moved to Peachland British Columbia to build and operate a carwash and later build a subdivision. After 9 years they longed to be closer to family, so they moved back to Rocky, where they built their final home on the farm.
Eva is survived by; her daughter Louise (Richard) Velichka; son sons Kevin (Leslie) and Brian all of Rocky Mountain House; also 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Her 2 sisters and 1 brother, numerous nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
Eva is predeceased and met at the gates by the love of her life Eugene, her great grandson Brendon Lefort, daughter in law Gail Kruger, both parents, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Her hands told stories without her ever speaking,
calloused from years of giving,
yet somehow still soft
when they held ours.

They smelled like love, and time,
like all the mornings she rose before the sun,
working not for praise,
but because love, to her,
was something you did.

She forgot little things—
where she left her glasses,
what day it was,
sometimes even a name.
But deep inside,
where it mattered most,
she never forgot love.

Love lived in the way she looked at us,
like it was the only way she wanted us to feel, loved.

She taught us things.
no book ever could—
how to be strong without being hard,
how to give without keeping score,
how to keep going
even when your hands ache
and your heart is tired.

And now those hands are resting,
finally, still,
folded gently in a place
where time doesn’t take anymore.

She’s with the ones she loved,
laughing in a way we can almost hear.
when the world gets quiet.

And though we cannot hold her now,
We will carry her—
in every kind thing we do,
in every moment choose love
the way she always did.

Her hands may be gone from ours,
but everything they gave us.
remains.

Rest easy now.

The family has decided there will be no memorial but there will be a small personal gathering at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, the family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eva’s name can be made to either The Alzheimer’s society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, or to CASA Mental Health.
