Obituary

On April 28, 2025, Lucy (Anna Lucia Sofia) Walton and Sarah Anne Walton went home to be with their Lord.
Lucy was born November 1, 1966, to Alfredo and Tina Azzolini in Yellowknife, NWT. She was the beloved wife of Bob Walton, the sister of Louie Azzolini, mother to Matthew, Isaac, Laura, Sarah, Grace, and Bobby, and grandmother to Abigail, Lucy, Sophie, Eliana, Isabelle, Micah, Anna, William, and little baby Mueller.
Lucy’s life was marked by love, gentleness, service, and her ever-present Italian laugh. Her goal was to honour her Lord and Saviour in all she did, whether pouring her love out in hosting or looking out for the unnoticed and unloved. Her commitment to serve and pray for her husband and children was unwavering and ever-joyful. Lucy had no greater joy than when her children were gathered around her.
Sarah—Bob and Lucy’s fourth child—was born March 12, 1996, in Rocky Mountain House, AB. Everywhere she went, Sarah brought people together, creating times of fun and adventure. Like her mother, Sarah was a brilliant hostess, devoted to family and friends, and sought to bring her relationship with God into all she did, including her work in health care. After working as an emergency nurse, Sarah became a doctor, a profession in which she shone. She was a loyal colleague, daughter, sister, and auntie.
The funeral will be held on May 10, 2025, at the First Christian Reformed Church (T4T 1B1) at 1:00pm. Following the service there will be a luncheon at Rocky Mountain Alliance Church (T4T 1H5).
Flowers are welcome but in lieu of flowers please consider donating to HER Victory.
Condolences may be forwarded to www.rockyfuneralhome.ca.

Condolences

Aurora :

She is a wonderful woman, as is her mother, in whom the Lord delights. I thank God for her and praise him who is God of the Living. My heart is with their family today as they grieve the loss of valuable lives and I pray comfort and peace of Jesus over them, to carry them through this time of sorrow.

Michelle:

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sarah and her mother's passing. While I didn’t know Sarah very well, it was clear she was a remarkable person—confident, strong-willed, intelligent, and beautiful. Her presence left a lasting impression on me and I'm sure to everyone she ever met, and I know she will be missed dearly. There are no words that could help fill the void left behind by this tragedy but it is clear that she was so loved and appreciated by those around her.

Sudhir Pandya:

I work as a ER Physician here in Calgary area. This is the most heartbreaking news I have come across in recent memory. To see such beautiful lives cut so short so quickly always impact us all. We never forget such a loss. We shall always carry you with us. Know that you live in our hearts eternally, that we will think of you in our most intimate quiet moments. Your energy, your commitment, your drive is what powers us in our lives professionally in this short life. You live eternally in hearts of all that you have touched...of that I am sure. Rest in peace.

Elaine Godwin:

I met Sarah at the Calgary CMDA welcome BBQ last summer in David and Andrea Loewen’s backyard. My husband and I sat at dinner with her. I remember admiring her bright spirit and her devotion to rural medicine. We are so sorry for your loss, she was a shining light. May God be near to all who loved her, in this time of grief.

Suzanne and Daniel Sawyer:

We got to know Sarah when she was a student at the U of C as she was one of the student leaders with CMDA. We could always count on her to help round up her classmates to come to Dinner with the Docs and Advent events. She always took the time to interact with our daughters, who enjoyed meeting all the student doctors. The world was a better place for having Sarah in it, much credit, I am sure, to the loving family created by Lucy and Bob. Our prayers are with the Walton family as they continue to grieve their loss.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name." Psalms 147:3-4

Erik Saude:

As an Emergency Medicine physician in Calgary I had the great pleasure of working with Sarah over the years. Her passion for medicine and the care of those around her served as a level we all must strive toward. She always had a calming effect upon her patients and a guiding strength when leading the care of the very sick. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Walton family. It was a tremendous blessing to have known Sarah.

Natasha Ripamonti:

I met Sarah when she was a medical student. She was interested in Emergency medicine and we had brunch one day to talk about her career and faith. She loved Jesus. She was also one of the most genuine, considerate and caring person I have had the privilege of spending time with. She seemed to naturally think of others and bless those around her. I remember how she thought of my 3 year old and recommended a children's version of the pilgrims progress for her, that we eventually got. She was truly a light in this world.

Sarah was intelligent and hard working. She texted me when she was accepted into the Calgary EM program and I was so excited that she was going to join our department.

My heart grieves for the Walton family. Sarah will always be loved and is dearly missed. May God comfort you during this time and give you peace.

Corinne:

I joined a church during COVID and Sarah was the first person I met and spoke to. She was a lovely person. She will be greatly missed

Rebecca Epp:

We had the great privilege and honor of having Sarah work with us at ELWA hospital in her last couple of months. Returning to Canada to complete her exams and residency. The physicians and ER staff grieve with you all the way here in Liberia. We are praying for your family in this heavy loss. During her brief time with us she shared her medical skill- both her efficiency and intelligence were noted by staff, her love for adventure, her ability to foster team work and her heart willing to serve.

Franca Doria & Gianni Moro:

Our heartfelt condolences to the Walton family, to Lucy's Mom Tina Azzolini and to Lucy's brother Louie Azzolini and his family. I have known Lucy since her birth in Yellowknife, NT. We were close neighbors for many years. My husband and I also met Sarah when she had come to Italy with her Mother to visit Lucy's Mother. Both Lucy and Sarah were beautiful people. May they rest in peace in God's loving arms.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time, may God grant you confort.

Charles Wong:

I knew Sarah semi-professionally as a residency program director here in Calgary, and through her brother Matt. I was looking forward to having her here in Calgary at our ER department. Her professionalism, character, and kindness were obvious to all of us here at U of C Emergency Medicine. We were very excited that she matched to our program as she was such an outstanding individual. She will be greatly missed by her would-be community in our department.

Chris:

We are grieved by the sudden death of Sarah; she is remembered as one of the most genuine, caring, thorough and gracious physicians I worked with in the ER. She wholeheartedly sought to give her best to every patient and was ambitious for the future where she could continue to make a difference in those lives she touched. Sarah embodied love for Jesus and comprehensively lived out a hope that was beyond this physical world could ever deliver. (1 Cor 1:6-9)

Musaab Ibrahim:

My deepest condolences to Sarah’s family and friends in these difficult times. May the almighty give you strength and comfort, and keep her memory alive in the hearts of those who loved her.

Shannon Rabuka:

It was my privilege to have met Sarah at a time when she was considering anesthesiology as specialty. It was with great pleasure over a coffee and one dinner to discover that we shared the same faith and the same love of the Italian language, and all things Italian, really. It is a great sorrow to me and many others that we will not continue to have her steady, cheerful presence working along side us in medicine ... my deepest sympathies to all of her friends and family.

Andrea Franchuk :

Sarah , I had the pleasure of working with you when you started in the Emergency department back in 2018. You were such a warm light. So caring and compassionate and beautiful inside and out. I’m so deeply saddened by this tragedy. I pray you are at rest and along side your mother. You are both in my prayers. Rest in peace.

Laura Turnbull :

Wazaira Khan:

I never met you in person Sarah but know that you were a kind soul with a shared love for faith and helping others. I will always remember how keen and kind you were as we collaborated to host an interfaith panel on faith and spirituality in medicine. May God always protect you. My sincere condolences to the Walton family.

Farah Jafri:

Andrea and David Loewen :

Our deepest sympathy. We met Sarah during her medical training in Calgary and so enjoyed having her as a colleague in medicine, and sister in Christ. God comfort your family and friends in your profound loss. We grieve, but with the assurance of His love, and the hope of God's kingdom coming. Peace to you.

Rob and Rose Kerber:

Our hearts grieve for you all. We've known Lucy for as long as she has been a part of Bob's life. We've seen Sarah grow from an adorable little girl to a beautiful accomplished young woman. Their light is gone from the world but not from our hearts. We pray for you Bob, for your family, for Lucy's family. May God give you strength and comfort. With all our love in Christ, from Rob and Rose.

Natasha :

My condolences to the Walton family and Sarah’s friends and colleagues during this difficult time. Though I only began getting to know Sarah over this past year I always felt welcomed by her kind hearted nature and warm smile. She was beautiful both inside and outside and I couldn’t help but notice how impeccably she dressed. She will be greatly missed by all of those who were lucky enough to cross paths with her.
