Virgil Roy Fransen was born on January 18, 1985, in Camrose, Alberta and died on December 15, 2025.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 + years, Amanda Fransen and their 2 fur babies — Henry and Shelby. He is also survived by his parents — his dad, Roy Fransen and by his Mom, Jacki Julyan (Randy), by his brother Trevor (Ally & Jaxon) and his grandmother Dorothy. As well, Virgil is survived by his Aunt Val (Kirk), his Uncle Darrell (Laura, Jess & Mitch), by his Aunt Rita (Ed) and by his special cousin, Mary and her children, Austin and Jay-Lynn, cousin Johnny (Kayla & Lily) He will also be dearly missed by Amanda's family; Virgil's father-in-law, Greg (Debbie), his mother-in-law, Wonda, his brother-in-law Christopher (Krystle, Emily & Erin), brother-in-law Cody (Erin), sister in-law Lacey, (Brent, Brody & Brayden), brother-in-law Jace (Breanna), Grandparents Wayne & Jackie and so many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. He will be so, so missed by so many.
Virgil is predeceased by his Grandpa Jack, his Uncle Donny and cousins Shawn, Dennis and Sammy.
Virgil's family remembers him as doing everything he did with the best that he had. His Dad, Roy, describes Virgil as his best friend, and his "mini me" and recounts that they had lots of laughs on the phone every week, either talking about the crazy stuff that his Dad had done, or that Virgil had. His Mom, Jacki shared that Virgil was well loved by the family and that everything he touched, he turned it into magic.
Virgil's family lived in Lacombe, Big Valley and a few other locations in Alberta before arriving in Rocky Mountain House is 1996. Shortly after the family moved to Rocky, Virgil got into boxing and he became an accomplished boxer; as a member of the Rocky Titans Boxing Club, Virgil won the Golden Gloves trophy several times.
Just after graduation in 2003, Virgil jumped on a plane and went off to join the Army Reserves full time. He had started in the reserves when he was just 16, training at Wainwright. Virgil served honorably and courageously.
Virgil and Amanda met in 2004, just after Amanda's graduation and Virgil's discharge from the army. They met through mutual friends and the rest is history. They were inseparable since that time.
Virgil worked for Kor Machinery in Rocky and completed his apprenticeship there. He and Amanda moved to Saskatchewan in 2007, and he worked for Irving Machine Inc. for 17 years before moving back to Alberta in 2024 and working at the Double H Machine Shop, where he worked until his passing.
With his love of speed, Virgil bought an old Monte Carlo in 2017 and started dirt track racing in 2017, winning many races and having the time of his life. Virgil was FUN. From dirt bikes to sleds to a speed boat and a race car, if it could go fast, he would, living life in the fast lane. But he also loved the quiet - the quiet of fishing, sitting on the deck enjoying a cold beer and the calm that he experienced when he went out into the mountains to clear his head. He loved the farm, and Amanda's Grandpa Wayne introduced him to wood working and turning, and Virgil was a natural. He loved life at the farm.
Virgil loved any and all food; he was the leftover garburator. Despite the family's best efforts to fatten him up, he never gained a pound.
Virgil lived life to the edge and beyond. He was always up for any kind of adventure; usually with a giggle and a giddy-up, let's go!
So, what is Virgil's legacy? Virgil was a giver; he would help anyone with anything, anytime. He cared about so many people and made everyone laugh. And that is truly a legacy to be proud of.
Virgil's death brings into sharp focus the importance of Mental Health and his family would like everyone here to know that you are not alone and that you are loved. The family would like to encourage donations to be made to a Men's Mental Health organization of your choice in Virgil's name.

Virgil will always be close in my heart and always in my memories. We became very good friends in middle school in Pioneer school in Rocky Mountain House AB. I can remember having sleepovers and staying up all night just being kids. We had so much fun as kids chasing girls in school and just being boys. We kinda lost contact for a while when they moved and I moved to edmonton. Myself I have been struggling with mental health issues, drugs, and alcohol. Virgil was my last true friend that actually went out of his way to check up on me and seeing if I was ok. Everytime he drove by he would honk n wave and all I could see was a big smile. I have so many memories and Ill always remember you. He was an amazing person. He helped me so much by just being a friend and going out his way to show some love. Im now happy, clean and sober. And I thank Virgil for pushing me to leave Alberta to go be with my kids cause he knew what road I was going down. Thank you for coming to see me before I left Alberta and picking me up when I needed it the most. I love you so much Virgil you were one of my best friends. Thank you so much for helping me mentally when no one else seem to care. I would give anything in this world to help you like u helped me. Thank you for being a part of my life. I will hold all our memories close. Love you lots and we will see you again. Love u bro.

Kathleen Millard:
He is away, yet ever near
His presence fills each day.
His voice and laugh a memory,
Not so far away.
And though he is no longer seen,
By relatives or friends.
He lives, for he was dearly loved.
And love can never end. ❤️
My deepest condolences to you all in this difficult time.
