Obituary

Garth Walter
1967-2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garth John Walter, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the age of 59 in Rocky Mountain House. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandpa and loyal friend whose presence touched the lives of many. Above all, he will be remembered for his love of family and the life he lived with purpose and passion.
Born in the United States, he moved to Canada with his parents George & Mary when he was a child. He was raised in Northern Alberta and later built his life in the area. It was in Canada that his love of farming took root, growing into a lifelong passion that shaped who he was and how he lived.
He was lovingly known for his infectious smile, his quick wit, playful nature and his unwavering love and devotion for his family. He not only was generous but lived life with a servant's heart guided by his faith in God.
Garth had a successful career in the oil and gas industry. He took pride in his work and was respected for his dedication, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He enjoyed the challenges and opportunities his career provided over the years and valued the many friendships and connections he made along the way. He built a career that reflected the same perseverance and integrity that he brought to every aspect of his life.
Garth farmed cattle for many years and had a deep love for working the land. He took great pride in his work, especially his tractors and found fulfillment in the daily rhythms in the farming way of life. His adventurous spirit later led him beyond the fields and through his best friend and father-in-law Sterling Smith, he gained a love for flying small aircraft and even achieved his private pilot’s license. Although he did not spend much time around the water in his earlier years, once he discovered boating, he quickly fell in love. “The Captain” found his new happy place in the sun, on the boat, on any lake around. Garth also enjoyed the peace found on the open road where riding his motorcycle gave him a sense of freedom that he deeply cherished. He found happiness whether he was in the air, on the water, or exploring by land while making treasured memories on his adventures with the people he loved most.
Through the years he served his community in different capacities which brought him undeniable joy and a great sense of purpose. He was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club where he valued the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact in the lives of others. He was also passionate about his involvement with COPA for Kids combining his love of aviation with his desire to create meaningful experiences for children. Whether he was volunteering, mentoring or lending a helping hand he believed in the importance of community and found great fulfillment in serving those around him. He valued the friendships he built through service and took great pride in contributing to his community. His willingness to help others and make a difference reflected the generous spirit that defined his life.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Sabrina Walter; their children: Colton (Chelsea), Jonathan (Kara), Katelyn, Isaiah, and Emily; grandchildren Ryder, Sterling, Maisy, Oakley, Noah, James, Levi, Amara, and Alec; and siblings Dwight (Gail), Mark (Heather), Carol (Rudy), Chris, and Les as well as many close family and friends that will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents Mary & George Walter, and brother Larry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rocky Funeral Home, on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend coffee and refreshments following the service.
Rocky and Sylvan Lake Funeral Homes and Crematorium, your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements.

Condolences

Jackie Halpern:

Sabrina and family,
My sincerest condolences on your loss. Although I did not know Garth for long, my time working with him left a strong and lasting impression on me. He was a thoughtful, kind, funny and honest person, clearly with a very strong work ethic, and strongly devoted to his wife and his family. It was a privilege to have known him, although for too short a time. My heartfelt condolences go out to Sabrina, his family, and all those who knew and loved him.

Dear Sabrina,

I am sorry that I have not had the opportunity to meet and get to know you. However, I heard many good things about you from my brother, George and my sister-in-law, Mary. They spoke well of you.
I had not seen or talked to Garth since before you two were married. THANK YOU for being a loving and supportive wife. I am so sad that your time together came to this.
I send you and the family much love and many prayers!! May God guide you through these difficult times.
