Obituary

It is with heavy and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son and brother, Ethan Allaby. He passed away at the young age of 23 on Thursday December 4, 2025, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, in Red Deer, Alberta.
Ethan was born in Red Deer, Alberta on March 8, 2002.
Ethan was the eldest son of Geoffrey and Colleen (Kavanagh) Allaby and brother to Matthew of Alhambra Alberta.
From a young age, Ethan’s smile and boundless energy brought joy to everyone around him. Ethan was a very kind and compassionate person. He had a great love of cats and dogs.
Ethan attended David Thompson High School. Ethan was a very talented and smart young man.
In his younger years he played volleyball, basketball, kick boxing and wrestling. He could do anything he set his mind to.
He could retain just about anything he was told and then go do it.
Ethan loved to fish and learned great skills from his late Grandfather, Joe Kavanagh and his uncle Darrin DeWitt.
Ethan went to visit his grandfather when he lived in Newfoundland and went fishing there.
Ethan had great pride and respect for his Papa Allaby and asked for his advice on many issues.
Ethan got his love of making amazing homemade bread from his Nanny. Ethan had a love of cooking and could make anything.
Ethan worked several jobs before he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and started working as a welder’s helper and worked towards becoming a welder. He was a first-year welding apprentice and was working on his second.
Ethan enjoyed working away and staying at the camps because he said it was routine for him.
Ethan recently got his own apartment in Sylvan Lake and was so proud that he was able to finally be out on his own. He was working locally as a welder’s helper at the time of his passing.
Ethan always set goals for himself, some of which he attained. He enjoyed helping others and was always looking out for those around him.
Even though Ethan was born and raised in Alberta, his heart belonged in the small community of Upham, New Brunswick. He said he was happiest when there.
He also had a great love of the water and always went to the ocean when he got home.
As he got older, he struggled with his mental health. His parents and brother were relentless with their efforts to help him over the course of several years and went above and beyond and supported him in every possible way they knew.
Ethan was a very giving young man and was an organ donor. In his family ‘s heartbreak and sorrow he is helping people and bringing other families a gift of joy and hope and a second chance at life.
In addition to his parents, Geoff and Colleen, he is survived by his younger brother Matthew.
Grandparents Glen and Wanda Allaby of NB, Nana Rita (Kavanagh), Uncle Darrin DeWitt and Aunt Shauna of NS, Uncle Jason Allaby and Aunt Colleen of NB and Aunt Andrea DeWitt of NS. Uncle Jim Kavanagh and Aunt Charlene of Lakeville NB and Uncle David Kavanagh and Aunt Lise of NS. Along with many great aunts and uncles and cousins.
Ethan was predeceased by his Maternal Grandfather, Joe Kavanagh and his Maternal Grandmother, Margaret Kavanagh.
