Obituary

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Elmer Robert OpdenDries, beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, on December 18, 2025, at the age of 63.
Elmer was born on May 14, 1962, in Red Deer, Alberta, to Johan and Elise OpdenDries. He was the fourth of seven children and was raised just outside of Rocky Mountain House. His childhood was filled with roughhousing alongside his siblings and building lifelong bonds through laughter. Elmer grew up with a strong sense of faith, kindness, hard work, and humor—values that shaped the way he lived his life and treated those around him.
Elmer dedicated 43 years of service to the community as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic. He was well known for his keen eye for detail, problem-solving skills, and strong work ethic, earning the respect of coworkers and friends alike.
Above all, Elmer cherished his family. In 1982, he met the love of his life, Joanne, and together they shared 41 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a devoted father to Cameron (Jessica), Kristy, Tyler, and Amber (Addison), and a proud grandfather to Kassandra. Elmer showed his love through a helping hand, a listening ear, words of wisdom, or a well-timed sarcastic remark. Whether through shared meals, time spent outdoors, or quiet conversations, his presence brought comfort and laughter, and he will be deeply missed.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his mother, Elise; his siblings Sylvia (Harry), Richard (Marlene), Calvin, Wes (Tracey), and Evelyn; and his children Cameron (Jessica), Kristy, Tyler, and Amber (Addison); and granddaughter Kassandra. He was predeceased by his father Johan, his sister Anita, and his grandson Nathaniel.
Elmer’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply the work he took pride in, and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be remembered always and forever missed.
A Celebration of life will be held at First Christian Reformed Church on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 1 pm.
