Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wil Speight at the age of 58 years, on October 18, 2024.
Wil graduated from Will Sinclair High School in 1984, then attended Vermillion College for the 2-year pre- veterinary program. When he finished college, he worked with young horses training them for cutting horse competitions, penning, sorting, and barrel racing. Wil won many trophies, buckles, saddles, etc. over his many year career.
Wil spent a few years in the U.S. working with many well-known trainers, in 2002 he returned to his home in Rocky to continue his training of horses. He spent 3 years at Old’s College instructing the Western Horsemanship Program, which he loved doing. After that he worked for Speight Construction and DDR until his health deteriorated. Wil’s favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, and he was never shy about standing up and reciting cowboy poetry. But his favorite time of year was hunting season!
Wil leaves to mourn his dear wife of 27 years Lynn; Stepson Douglas; parents: Elaine & Bill; In-laws Yvonne & Jim; brothers Troy (Stacey) and A.J. (Rebecca).
Wil was predeceased by his grandparents Loretta and Neal Speight, Helen and John Gant, Uncle Louis Eldon Gant, and brother Daryl.
In lieu of flowers we request you donate to the heart and stroke foundation.
Condolences may be forwarded to www.rockyfuneralhome.ca.
Rocky and Sylvan Lake Funeral Homes and Crematorium, your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements.

I was heartbroken to hear that Wil is gone and am crushed thinking of the loss to your family. He was an entertaining clinician and I hauled my kids and ponies to the High Prairie area to take a clinic about 20 years ago. Then my daughter had Wil as an instructor at Olds College in the equine sciences program. I think of your family fondly and pray for strength and healing in this difficult time, I hope the love and positive energy from everyone touched by this loss will help you get through. Hugs to all from Linda and Ken.
