Obituary

Robert Burns McGhee
“Sawtooth Bernie”
July 12, 1934 - April 28, 2026

Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and Friend passed away after battling with cancer.

Bernie was one of 2 people who were born in Lamorel, AB. He would often talk about attending the “best school” in Alberta - “Alhambra.” He spent most of his working life in western Alberta building forestry trunk roads and in lumber camps. He had a passion for rebuilding the old sawmills, that he found at auctions and across the province. One of his sayings, “Every farmer needs a stick of wood.” Bernie loved playing guitar and joined his first band a couple of years ago. Special thanks goes out to the Westview Lodge Band.

He is survived by his loving wife Dovey; children: Bonnie (Fred), Bev (Neil) Ian; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his sisters: Alice Verhaeghe, Marilyn (Otto) Rauch; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernie is predeceased by his father, mother, brother Harvey, and sister Rilla Lyster.

A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held later this summer.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Bernie’s name to the Rocky Health Foundation.
