Obituary

Eder: Hannelie

May 24, 1972 - September 26, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Hannelie Eder, of Rocky Mountain House, while doing what she loved so much, flying, along with her flight partner that day, Ken Fowler; on Saturday September 26 at a small airstrip near Telfordville, Alberta.

Hannelie Eder was born in Koblenz, Germany and raised in a loving family in Masburg. She came to Canada, in 1995, after specialized policing careers in both Germany and the United States. It was during a time of vacation, adventuring in all the open spaces we had to offer. She soon found out this is where she would call home. In 1998, along came her greatest joy, her beloved son Christopher. Hannelie kept up her career in law enforcement by working as a Peace Officer and doing security jobs. While initially eyeing a helicopter license, Hannelie fell in love with fixed wing flight, earning a fixed wing private pilots license. She enjoyed flying her beautiful RV-6 airplane that was wrapped to proudly represent the colours of the German Flag, and recently working on her commercial pilot’s license.

Hannelie also gave back to the community, in volunteering with the Barracuda’s Swim Club, for band trips with West Central School Concert Bands and with the Rocky Mountain House Airshow Society- volunteering behind the scenes as well as on the board of directors. Christopher and his Mom, spent countless hours at the airport, learning and enjoying their passion of aviation. You could also often find Hannelie cooking, baking, and hosting her close circle of treasured friends.

Life without Hannelie’s smile won’t be the same for her son Christopher, parents Marga & Martin Eder, sister Stephanie Eder (Michael Kaliszan) of Germany, mother and father in law Doris and Ralph Rosdal, sister in law Debora (Robert) Martin, all of Rocky , and extended family in Germany and Rocky Mountain House.

A celebration of Hannelie’s life took place on Saturday October 3, 2020 from the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Hannelie’s name, please consider giving to Harv’s Air Steinbach or a program called COPA for Kids; to support kids/ adults as they endeavor to see their dreams come true in the aviation world.

Condolences

Bernd Haage (vom Telekolleg 1994-1996 in Kaiserslautern):

Liebe Hannelie,

Michael Gerhartz:

Hi Hannelie,
I still remember us car sharing on our weekly journey to the police academy. Even back then, from 91 to 93 , we both joked around that one day we would quit our jobs and go to Canada. We both followed our dreams! There are five things in life you cannot recover: A stone...after it's thrown. A word...after it's said. An occasion...after it's missed. The time...after it's gone. A person...after they die. Life is short! You will be missed! Rest easy!

Michael Gerhartz

Alexander Michael :

Liebe Hannelie,

Ruhe in Frieden.

Keith McLeod:

Condolences to Hannelie's family,
I had the pleasure of working with Hannelie when she was reading meters for Fortis. She was always a hard worker and was very fun to be around. She was proud of Christopher, he was very young at that time, and she had lots of stories to tell about him. The last visit I had with her, she was showing me videos of the acrobatics she was doing. You could tell she really enjoyed it. Sorry for your loss.

Jamie B:

My deepest sympathy to Hannelie’s family and friends. The world has lost one of the most interesting people I have ever met.

Glenys Kent:

Condolences to Christopher and Hannelie's family. Whenever I spoke with Hannelie she was so positive, interesting and eager to explore what life had to offer. Her zest for adventure will be missed.

Laurie Herold:

I'm so sorry for your loss Chris, your mom was a remarkable lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tatjana Krechel :

Hallo Hanne,

Daher mein zutiefst empfundenes Beileid

Stephanie Eder:

Hi Schwesterlein

In Liebe

Deine Schwester Stephanie

Rick Emmons:

I thought i knew Hannelie, but i learned even more about this remarkable lady over the past weekend.
Topher, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Monika Weber ( Tante) :

Deine Monika

Tina Moroney :

My deepest condolences to you Christopher and Hannelies family in Germany.
I met your mom when she worked as a peace officer/safety with Town of Rocky House. This was a friendship I truly appreciated. She was so excited when she decided to get her pilots license, and nothing was going to prevent her for achieving her dreams.

She always spoke of you Christopher as her proudest achievement. She loved being a mom and like all things she took on, she always gave 110%. I hope you know she will always be near to you Christopher.

Tina M

Rebecca Silvester:

I am so sorry for your loss, I really enjoyed getting to know Hannelie when she ventured into the Co-op Home Centre. She would seek me out and chat, have a few laughs. She was such a beautiful person with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed!

Sheila Mizera:

My sincerest condolences to Hannalie’s family and friends. She was a consummate professional — serving our community. Hannalie, thank you
