Jeanette (Japke) Ann Visser

Née DeBruin
May 6, 1942 – September 2, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family of Jeanette (Japke) Ann Visser, announces her passing on September 2, 2026, at the age of 84.

Jeanette was born on May 6, 1942, in Slodorpe, Friesland, Netherlands, to Thys and Aaltje DeBruin. In 1950, at the age of eight, Jeanette immigrated to Canada with her family, making the journey aboard the Volendam and arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Jeanette grew up alongside her four siblings, Gordon (Gooitsen), Betty (Baukje), Karen (Katje), and Tina (Kristina).

On December 24, 1960, Jeanette married the love of her life, Sidney (Siebren) Visser, in Edmonton, Alberta. Together they built a life and family that would remain at the center of everything Jeanette held dear. They were blessed with three children: Jerry (Jelte) Sidney Visser (Aly), Angela (Betty) Visser (Mike), and Thomas Gordon Visser (Tina).

In June 1980, Jeanette and Sidney made Rocky Mountain House their home. Jeanette became a familiar face in the community through her many years working in the produce department at Rocky Co-op, where she worked for 25 years.

More than anything, Jeanette loved her family. Family meant everything to her, and some of her greatest joys came from visits, gatherings, conversations, laughter, and simply having the people she loved around her. She was a humble woman of strong faith who loved God deeply and carried that faith throughout her life.

Jeanette had a wonderful sense of humour and a personality that those who knew her will never forget. She could make you laugh, and she was never afraid to tell you exactly how it was. Beneath that honesty was a tremendous love for her family and the many people who became part of her life over the years.

Jeanette was a proud grandmother to Mellissa (Nicholas), Brianna (Dillion), Cameron (Ashleigh), Ryan (Laura), Aaron (Arin), Janalee (Sean), Karissa (James), Blake, Ian (Angela), and Evan (Angela).

Her family continued to grow with her beloved great-grandchildren: Corbin, Burton, Hailey (Connor), Marcos, Malique, Mikael, Emil, Sidney, Lillian, Sophia, Callia, Myles, Zane, Brooks, Lexie, Jazlyn, Tayla, Elarian, Cashlyn, Jamison, Alarian, Anaya, and Amari.
Jeanette was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sidney; and many other family members and loved ones who went before her.

She leaves behind a large and loving family, along with many relatives, friends, former coworkers, and others whose lives she touched throughout her years.
Jeanette’s life was rooted in faith, family, humility, hard work, and love. Her family will remember her for the visits around the table, her humor, her honesty, her strength, and above all, the love she had for each of them.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Rocky Funeral Home & Crematorium, 4804 48 Street, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

A Celebration of Jeanette’s Life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Living Branches Community Church, 4304 49 Avenue, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

Her faith carried her through life, and her love will continue to carry her family forward.
