Sonia (Tiny) Lawrence, passed away in the loving care of workers at Rocky Support Services homes in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
Sonia had a huge family of siblings. Her brothers were Jack, Don, John, Jim, Ken, Henry and sisters Rita, Peggy, and Linda.
After attending school in Niton and Peers, Sonia went into government care in Red Deer, Alberta. Visits from Peggy were the highlight of her day. Later Sonia moved to Rocky Mountain House. The care home there kept her busy making crafts, doing puzzles and volunteering. She loved watching hockey on TV, taking pictures, going for walks and having coffee.
Sonia also enjoyed vacations, especially to Nashville as she loved country music. She would travel to Rita’s home in Calgary on special occasions such as Christmas. Ken and Linda would drive to Rocky Mountain House for visits. Sonia had a wonderful time with Linda and her husband when they took her to Edmonton and Vancouver Island for a visit. Last fall Linda took Sonia to Calgary and they had one last shopping trip. It was so much fun at the mall and while she was there, she ate all the family favorites.
When Sonia visited with her siblings, she loved to walk hand in hand living in a world where she was 10 years old, when life was wonderful, happy and without sad memories.
Sonia’s passing leaves a complicated kind of grief and sorrow; but a blessing knowing she is continuing on her child like adventure in heaven.
Rocky Support Services will be having a get-together at their facility. Sonia’s family will have a service in Campbell River this summer.
Thank you to everyone in Rocky Mountain House who made Sonia’s life enjoyable.

Ashley:
I had the privilege of working with Sonia many years ago as a support worker. She was such a joyous and happy soul! Always laughing, smiling and finding the humour in things. Many of my favourite days were spent with Sonia going to A&W for coffee or just sitting back and watching country music videos. She left a lasting impression on me and has impacting my life in ways I would have never imagined. Condolences to her family and all the amazing support workers that had the honour of working with her.
