Feb 21, 1953 - Apr 22, 2026
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Clara Thompson, affectionately known as Betsy, on April 22, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Betsy was a woman of quiet strength, resilience, and grace. For much of her life, she lived with a painful bone disease that limited many of the simple pleasures others often take for granted. Despite this, she never allowed her condition to define her. She faced each day with courage and determination, finding joy in life’s meaningful moments and in the happiness of those around her.
She had a deep love for music and dancing, passions she cherished for as long as she was able. Live music, especially the sound of guitar and fiddle, brought her great joy. Betsy found happiness in seeing others laugh, celebrate, and enjoy themselves—her warmth and spirit made every gathering brighter.
Proud of her Métis heritage, Betsy held a deep respect and connection to Cree culture. Her traditions, roots, and family ties were a constant source of strength and pride throughout her life.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her three sons, a cherished mama to her eight grandchildren, and a proud great mama to her two great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world. Though she lived many hours away from the home she grew up in, she remained closely connected to her extended family, including her sister and brothers as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Always nurturing those relationships with care and love.
Betsy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her enduring strength, and the deep love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
