Obituary

It is with profound sadness and grief that we said goodbye to our beloved husband and father on October 23, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Brian was born in Brandon, Manitoba and moved to Turner Valley shortly after. He lived there for his formative years and then moved to Calgary where he worked at Co-op as a meat cutter. He then joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was in the Military Police.
After a few years he joined the RCMP. He loved being a member. His first posting was in Drumheller and then to Peace River, Red Deer, back to Peace River and then back to Red
Deer. During this time, he reached the rank of Corporal. His last posting was in Rocky Mountain House where he retired after 34 1/2 years. After retirement he enjoyed a few years doing oilfield security.
Brian loved hunting and was basically unavailable for anything else from mid-August — mid November. He enjoyed going to hunting camp up north. Unfortunately, he could not go this year.

Brian is survived by his wife — Barbara Jean Donnelly, his son Neil James Donnelly, his daughter Erin Katherine Stuart (Mike) and two grandchildren — Levi James Stuart and Bridget Ann Marie Stuart and Sarah Kathyrn Moon (stepdaughter). He is also survived by his sister Cheryle (Tom) Anderson, in-laws John and Corinne Reynolds and Micheal Newham.
Predeceased by his father and mother- James and Brenda Donnelly and father and mother in-law- Gordon and Hilda Newham and brothers in law Leonard and Roger Newham and numerous nephews and nieces.
Brian will miss his best friends Jay Arsenault and Terry Blagborne who have meant so much to him over the years.
As per his request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers a donation to The ROAR Society, Alberta Cancer Society or Alberta Diabetic Society would be appreciated.

Condolences may be forwarded to www.rockyfuneralhome.ca.

Marko Shehovac:

Our paths crossed in Depot, Brian being a troop mate. Troop 22 75/76. We are a tight group in that we were able to keep in touch with each other through our yearly Christmas message that another troop mate would initiate. We are able to keep track of how things are going for everyone. The joys, the births of Grandchildren, the travels, hobbies and as we get older we track our ailments and support when we lose a troop mate and spouses. Unfortunately we have lost one other Member of our troop not that long ago. We will certainly raise a glass and toast our departed Members during our 50th reunion in June. Six months at Depot results in a very strong bond that is hard to explain to our civilian friends. Happy to know that Brian with the support of his family had control to the end. Condolences to all of Brian's family and friends.

Rick Taylor:

So sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. I worked with him in 1990-93 on Red Deer City GIS. He was an excellent investigator, and a welcoming mentor to this newbie to the plainclothes world. RIP Brian.

Dave WENGER:

"Pepsi" was a friend, so sorry to learn of his passing. RIP

Jim Thoreson:

My condolences to all Brian's family. I worked with Brian in Red Deer. Always had the greatest respect for him and enjoyed working with him. He was a great guy.

Mike, Joanna, Simon and Melissa Head:

Dear Barb,
We are all so sorry to learn of your loss. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. We have all lost people close to us recently and know how hard it is to move forward when a person of Brian's character is no longer with us. May strength and inner peace be with you! Mike, Joanna, Simon and Melissa

Darrell Goss:

Barb, Margie and I were so sad to hear of Brian’s passing. Me from Black Diamond and him from Turner Valley, me a member of CPS and him from RCMP gave us a lot to talk about and have fun over. I enjoyed the talks we had while out in the field in the middle of no where. We enjoyed our visits with you and Brian at a few of those famous Bar B Q’s you guys hosted and the dinners at Terry and Brenda’s. He will be missed by so many.

Len Duguay:

Brian and I met in the early 90's in adverse circumstances as a result of the job. I'm happy to say that culminated in a friendship that carried on for the next 32 years. Over three decades we witnessed many sunrises and sunsets together in our" happy place" , the hunting camp.
Brian was a gruff guy on the outside which all too often hid the heart of gold inside.
To you Barb, Neil , Arron and your families I offer you my deepest condolences and my vow to never forget him.

Len.

Carole:

Barb, I am so grateful I was able to have a conversation with Brian shortly before his passing and so glad that he had the comfort of your love and support throughout his final journey. Now he can rest easy and be at peace.
