Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Benjamin Lorne Straub announces his sudden and unexpected passing at his home on August 11, 2026.

Ben's life was rooted in family, hard work, and the land he loved. Though his passing came far too soon, the memories he leaves behind are of a man who found happiness in simple things: a day on the farm, time spent with family, a garden in bloom, and the opportunity to lend a helping hand.

Born on March 20, 1970, in Eckville, Alberta, to Annie and Otto Straub, Ben spent his entire life in the Condor community, living on the family farm that he dearly loved. The farm was more than his home; it was where he found purpose, fulfillment, and a deep connection to the land that remained with him throughout his life.

Ben attended Condor Elementary School and graduated from David Thompson High School in 1988. Although farming was always his true passion, he worked for a number of local oilfield companies throughout his career, most recently with WPW Pipeline and Facility Construction. No matter where work took him, his heart remained on the farm, and he found great satisfaction in working alongside his brother Richard, sharing in the daily rewards and challenges of farm life.
Ben appreciated life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in tending his flowers. From his mother, Annie, he learned many practical skills, including cooking, canning, and baking, talents he carried throughout his life. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and willingness to help others. Family, friends, and neighbours could always count on Ben to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

Above all, family was at the center of Ben's life. He cherished family gatherings and looked forward to spending time with those he loved. His steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Ben was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Annie Straub; his brother-in-law, Ken Buchta; his great-nephew, Justin Henneigh; and his great-niece, Greta Marofke.

Ben is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Richard (Verna) Straub, Ida Buchta, Linda (Manfred) Marofke, Ray (Sally) Straub, Dave (Ev) Straub, and Alvin (Deborah) Straub; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbours who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of Rocky Funeral Home on August 18, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place prior to the service.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation, they may be made to Bethel Union Church of Leslieville.
