Obituary

The family of Ralph Johnson is saddened to announce his peaceful passing at home on February 7, 2026, at the age of 93 with his wife by his side. Elvin Ralph Johnson was born in North Star, AB on October 9, 1932 to August and Marta Johnsson. He attended school in Northstar and worked on the family farm until 1948 when he headed out on his own as a seismic jug hand, eventually working up to driller. Ralph met the love of his life, Ruth Anita Graham in Caroline in 1956 while drilling in the area. They were married on August 17, 1957 in Caroline, AB and this union lasted for 68 years until his death. The first few years of their marriage were busy ones as they moved around the three western provinces with the seismic crew, living in fourteen places by 1962. In 1962, they moved to the Manning area to homestead. In 1966, a final move was made when they purchased a farm northwest of Caroline, where Ralph resided until his death. Farming was a way of life for Ralph, and he ran a mixed farm for most of his life. Throughout the years Ralph and Ruth enjoyed many adventures while traveling the world. Although his body was failing him in the last few years, his will to live and sheer determination never subsided, with Ralph continuing to spend at least some time in the tractor right through his final summer. That strength is a testament to the man he was.
Ralph was a strong supporter of his community throughout his life. In addition to being a long-term member of the Caroline Curling Club and Caroline Wheels of Time Museum, Ralph spent many hours with his equipment working at the Caroline Museum and helping construct the Caroline Arena and the Nazarene Church.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 68 years, three children, Bill, Bruce (Karin), and Tracey, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his father August, mother Marta, brothers Herb and Lawrence and sister Elsie.
At Ralph’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caroline Wheels of Time Museum.
