Apr 25, 1931 - Apr 19, 2026
We wish to announce the peaceful passing of Muriel Bryan-Hertz in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, on April 19, 2026, just six days shy of her 95th birthday.
Muriel was our beloved matriarch — a woman whose beauty was only ever matched by her charm, charisma, and quiet regality. In her younger years she was lovingly known as “Babe,” a moniker that stayed with her, woven gently through the years.
Through to the very end, Muriel carried a youthful spirit. She had a quick wit, a natural sense of humour, and a playful nature that never left her. She loved to laugh — and just as much, to make others laugh — often leaving those around her in stitches.
Creative at heart, Muriel found joy in crocheting, knitting and crafting. Rarely did anyone leave her presence without something handmade — a blanket, a sweater, or a small token of her care.
She loved deeply and doted on those closest to her. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she gave freely of her affection — with hugs, kisses, and her signature cheek pinches. She loved summer, gardening, travelling, and making new friends wherever she went.
Muriel Patricia Pederson was born April 25, 1931, in Arelee, Saskatchewan, to John and Gabrielle Pederson, and was the youngest of four siblings.
At 20, she married Andrew Bryan on May 18, 1951, in Saskatoon. Together they raised two children and built a life rooted in partnership, managing Crescent Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
When it was time to retire, Muriel and Andy left their city life behind and moved to a quieter, rural setting on the outskirts of Rocky Mountain House, embracing a slower pace and a more peaceful way of living.
It was a great heartache when Andy passed away at 74, just months short of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Muriel found love once again and remarried in 2007, after they had spent time building a life together. They made a wonderful couple, enjoying each other’s company and their families. They were together for more than 13 years before Adam passed away in February 2020.
Muriel will be forever loved and remembered by her son, Donald Bryan (Jo-Ann); her grandchildren: Jaymie Bryan (Greg Sakell), Christina Bryan, April Bryan, Dawn Bryan, Kayla Parasynchuk (Ryan), Matt Bryan, and Tara Smith; and her great-grandchildren: Ryley Osness, Brayden McDonald, Andrea Gunderson, Jayce Bryan, Cohen Janson, Aryanna Parasynchuk, George Sakell, Brynnley Bryan Jones, and Jackson Cullum.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Bryan (2000), her daughter Karla Bryan (2021), her second husband Adam Hertz (2020), her siblings, and her parents.
A big thank you to the staff at the Clearwater Centre, who were an instrumental part of Muriel’s daily routines, care, and comfort. We thank them for the work they put in every day, and for their dedication in keeping our elders safe, warm, and comforted.
