The family of Eddie Bott is saddened to announce his passing on February 14, 2026, at the age of 96.
Eddie was born on December 12, 1929, to Fred and Keitha Bott. He attended school at Shady Lane until grade 9.
During his school years his true passion for trapping began. At 6 years old he had an active trapline between home and the school, mostly catching weasels and the odd skunk. Much to Eddies’ delight he was sent home from school, more than once, because of the distinct odor!
Eddie was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He loved the outdoors and had a great respect for the land. Eddie shot his last deer just short of his 94th birthday.
Eddie married Marie Phelps in 1954. They were blessed with 4 children. Russell. Gene, Carolyn and Joanne.
After the passing of Marie, Eddie found a second chance at happiness with Dorothy Brewster. They were married on May 11, 1996. This year would have marked their 30th anniversary.
Eddie and Dorothy enjoyed their retirement years. They truly enjoyed their time together. Time was spent on the trapline, fishing, travelling, playing cards and family campouts. Music was a big part of their lives as well as visiting with friends and neighbors.
Eddie and Dorothy were active members of the Benalto Baptist Church for many years. Eddie had a strong faith in the Lord which was evident by the number of bibles at all his favorite places.
Eddie was an active Leslieville Elks’ member for 65+ years. He was involved in numerous organizations and was a life member of the Alberta Trappers Association.
Eddie was predeceased by his 1st wife Marie. Sons Russell and Gene. Stepsons Scott and Charles Brewster.
Eddie is survived by his wife Dorothy. Daughters Carolyn and Joanne (Dan). 7 grandchildren Dallas (Justine) Bott, Lynsy (Bryce) Beckner, Aaron (Dana) Fisher, Randi (Corey) Bott, Stanley (Laralynn) Hollingsworth, Danny Hollingsworth and Leasa (James) Oxley. 15 great grandchildren. Stepsons Steven and Peter Brewster. Step grandchildren Amanda, Scott, Alex, Ian, Nadine and Evan.
Eddie is also survived by one sister Donna Pattison as well as many special nephews, nieces and friends.
The funeral service for Eddie Bott will be held at the Eckville Community Centre on Saturday, February 28th, 1:00 p.m. Internment will take place prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Leslieville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leslieville Community Centre. Box 34, Leslieville, AB T0M 1H0.

I will always be grateful for the privilege to know Eddie. I always enjoyed spending time in the bush with him. He taught me as much about hunting and trapping as anyone. Always with a patience that I probably tested on more than one occasion. I harvested my first deer and moose with him. Both events I will never forget. He also taught me that grape pop doesn't really go well with water from the Sourdough well, but it does warm you up for the last part of the trip back to the cabin in the fall.
He was one of a kind.
My condolences to the Bott family.
Tommy Sparkman:

Thanks Uncle Eddy for being you. I would’ve liked to spend more time with you but I’m sure glad for the time I did get to spend. You seemed so excited for me to get my trapline. I came to your house to get some of your marten lure. I remember you handed me a jar and it took the lid off to smell it. I said “oh, it smells good” and you said “it took me a while to realize that it doesn’t have to stink to work”. I caught the most marten when I used your lure. I will miss your big smile and the twinkle you had in your eye. I bet you are enjoying seeing all your siblings and folks again as well as many others. Until we meet again.

It was a privilege to have met Eddie Bott !
The years pass so quickly it’s hard for me to put an exact date on our first meeting.
I was with Keith Hope in the fall of that year. We were camped at Jack Fish lake . I had put a beef roast the camper oven for supper that night.
Eddie stopped in for a visit. He invited Keith and I for supper . I said thanks Eddie but I’ve have got a beef roast going.
Eddie said “ do you have Anything against a White Tail roast and all the trimmings! Turn the oven off !
I made many trips back with Keith after that particular time.
Eddie came down to for a visit to the ranch . We took him on a Sturgeon fishing trip which was a definite pleasure for me .
Every Christmas Eddie would call .
My deepest condolences to all the Bott family!
It was an honour for me to have met such a wonderful man and his family!
Rosalie Olson :
