In accordance with Elsie's wishes, there will be no funeral service and a family graveside gathering will be held at a later date.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie Sofia Ziola at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on March 30, 2026.
Elsie was born in Radway, Alberta on July 20, 1934, and grew up on the Patjas family farm near Hespero. In 1952 Elsie and Leo Ziola were married and settled on their farm near Condor; her home for the next 73 years.
Elsie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, quilting, crochet and weaving. She was actively involved in her community through the Royal Purple, canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society and numerous other community initiatives. She was an excellent cook and always had some fresh baking ready for company. Elsie and Leo enjoyed curling, playing cards with friends and family, and they spent many happy years traveling throughout Canada and the US, and camping in the west country.
Elsie will be dearly missed by her daughter Eunice and son Daryle; grandchildren Shelley, Mark, Amanda (Steve), and Daylene; great-grandchildren Chris, Savanna, Michael, Woodrow (Rachel), Jacob, Olivia, Teeanna and Kendra; great-great Grandchildren Sophia, Claire and Alexander; brothers Lee Patjas (Marjorie) of Kamloops and John Patjas (Lou) of Red Deer, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends.
She was predeceased by Leo, her husband of 66 years, parents Otto and Alice Patjas, and brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Eileen Patjas.
In accordance with Elsie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and a family graveside gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Carol & Andre Frantzen:
Our deepest condolences to Elsie's family.
Elsie was a very special and lovely lady. I enjoyed our phone conversations. Time goes by very fast, and I regret that I was not able to visit her lately.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rest in peace, Elsie.
All my regards and thoughts,
Carol
