Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend, June Sawyer.
June was born on June 11, 1953, in Rocky Mountain House to Harry and Lauretta Fredine. She grew up on the family farm in the Alhambra/Butte area. June was the youngest in the family, joining her brother Richard, her sister Sharon, and Duane. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing with her cousins at the family farm, where many family gatherings were held.
June attended elementary school in Alhambra, which then relocated to Condor. She later graduated from David Thompson High School.
June married in 1972 and shortly after welcomed her daughter, Lanna. Three years later, she welcomed her son, Kevin.
Later, after her children were older, June worked at the Tamarack Hotel doing housekeeping. A few years later, she was diagnosed with arthritis, which affected her joints and eventually prevented her from continuing to work.
Over the years, June enjoyed many activities, including gardening, playing cards, camping trips with her siblings, and baking delicious treats. She even started her own chocolate business, Tasty Chocolates, where she made and sold a variety of sweets.
June never let arthritis stop her. Her camping trips took her to many places, including British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alaska. Her grandchildren could always count on her to share knowledge and stories on a wide range of subjects.
In recent years, June required assistance with daily tasks and received home care support, which she greatly appreciated. She always enjoyed their visits.
June greatest joy were her five grandchildren. Whether it was going on trips to the zoo or just sitting and doing a puzzle. She would always look forward to their visits.
She couldn’t wait for the warmer weather so she could take out her hummingbird feeder. She loved watching the birds fly past her living room window. Every trip to her house meant refilling the bird feeder.
June was a kind, loving, and strong woman who always welcomed visits from friends, family, and neighbors.
June will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lanna (Rob) Simmelink; her son, Kevin (Shona) Sawyer; her grandchildren, Courtney Simmelink, Brandon Simmelink, Logan Sawyer, McKenzie Sawyer, and Kaley Sawyer; her sister-in-law, Linda Fredine; her nieces and nephews, Lisa Braun, Malissa (Quentin) Huillery, and Michael (Jocelyn) Fredine; and her great-nieces and nephews, Hope and Jakob Huillery, and Ethan, Devon, and Liam Fredine.

June was predeceased by her father, Harry, in 1967; her mother, Lauretta, in 2002; her brother, Duane, in 2006; her sister-in-law, Joyce, in 2017; her sister, Sharon, in 2018; her brother, Richard, in 2021; and her brother-in-law, Noel, in 2023.
June will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who knew her.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in June’s name can be made to the West Country Family Services (Rocky Mountain House).

Condolences

Kari Henkel:

I will miss June and our visits that were always full of lively conversation. She always spoke so highly of each member of her family. I was saddened to hear of her passing and am praying for your comfort and peace.

Dean. Ross:

So sorry for your loss. Always admired June for how she carried on with a smile while I am sure she suffered with Arthritis. She was always smiling and friendly. Had several fun times around the camp fire. God Bless

Ester Ouderkirk:

I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family during this sad time.

Laura Reichert:

John and I extend our deepest sympathies to all of June's family. My cousin June and I were just 4 months apart in age, and we would spend time staying at each other's place during the summer. We would write letters to each other, I still cherish those. I was thrilled to be a bridesmaid at her wedding. I always looked forward to getting an annual Christmas card from her, and read about her growing family, and in our phone calls too, the pride and love for her family was evident. Know now that she is at peace, free of the arthritic pain she suffered with for so long. I will miss her dearly.

Laurie Stone:

Sorry for your loss Lanna and family !

George and Heather Loomer:

We are so sorry to hear of June's passing. Deepest sympathy to all her family.

Lorelei:

I am so very sorry to hear this news. I will miss her and our visits a lot. Kevin, Shona and kids as well as Lana and Zip and family she loved you all and was so proud of all of you xo
