Obituary

Daniel Leonard Hjalmer Fossen
(September 4, 1987 - October 14, 2024)
Daniel was born on September 4th, 1987, in Daysland, Alberta and with great sadness we
announce his sudden passing on October 14th, 2024, in Thorsby, Alberta.
Daniel grew up on a small farm outside of Daysland. After high school he jumped around
central Alberta then settled himself in Thorsby, Alberta. This is where he bought a home and
built a beautiful life with his wife.
Daniel was a loving son, brother, husband, father and uncle. He will be greatly missed but
the memory of him will be cherished by his wife Lindsay and children Emerson, Paxton,
Angelika and DJ (Daniel Junior), his parents Dan and Karmen and his brothers Zen (Tanya),
Layne (Deanna), his twin Katlin (Sarah) and Landon as well as his numerous nieces and
nephews.
Daniel was a free spirit who loved to joke around. He was an avid outdoorsman. Whether on
the water or in the woods, his love for nature was a constant presence in his life. Those that
knew him will remember his spirit and the many memories made in the great outdoors.
There will be a Celebration of Life held in Daniel’s honour on November 23rd, 2024. From
1-4pm at the Killam Community Hall (4929 50th St, Killam, AB). This will be informal with an
open mic. All are welcome to come and share their stories of Daniel. Light refreshments will
be provided.
In lieu of gifts the family asks that donations be made in Daniel's name to Alberta Mental
Health Foundation or the MOvember movement.

Gone Hunting
Remember the smiles and not the tears
For all the hunts throughout the years
Don’t dwell on things left unsaid
Cherish the memories we had instead
Like the crisp mornings and dusky nights
A trophy buck within our sights
Deer camp with friends and family
These moments meant so much to me
When peace from nature all around
Was shattered by a sudden sound
I always hoped your aim was true
And smiled with pride for all of you
So don’t cry for me because life is done
Stalking the fields has just begun
Come fall may smiles know your face
Knowing I’ve gone hunting…in a better place.
David Ritter
