Joyce Lucille Stuart May 2, 1939-September 12, 2026

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joyce Lucille Stuart, on September 12, 2026, in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, at the age of 87.

Her loss leaves an emptiness in the hearts of all who loved her and whose lives she touched. Joyce was born May 2, 1939, in Rimbey, Alberta, the eldest daughter of Harold and Lucille Lemieux.

From an early age, Joyce had a love of learning—she learned to read at just three years old, beginning a lifelong love of books and knowledge. After attending Midland School through Grade 9, she left home to complete high school in Rimbey. She then attended Normal School in Edmonton and began her lifelong passion for teaching. Joyce was an educator for more than 30 years, teaching at Crestomere, Drayton Valley, and Condor.

She especially loved teaching reading and music and looked forward to Christmas concerts. She believed deeply that education could improve lives and often encouraged others to “go to school and learn as much as you can.” She earned her university degree through perseverance and hard work. She continued learning throughout her life, A voracious reader, Joyce loved books, learning, and a good political debate. Faith, family, friendship, learning, connection, and service were at the heart of Joyce’s life. Her strong faith carried her through many adventures, dark times and challenges.

She was always ready to help others and was known for her generous hospitality—there was always a meal ready for anyone who came to visit. Joyce fiercely loved her family and was deeply loyal. She was non-judgmental and accepting, with a wonderful ability to make people feel welcome and valued. Joyce was always looking for the good in others and chose to focus on what was positive, even when life was difficult. Her kindness, encouragement, and generosity touched countless lives, and she had a tremendous impact on the hundreds of students she taught.

Joyce met her husband, Robert, at a dance and fell in love with his blue eyes. Together they eventually settled on their farm in the Gimlet area. After Bob’s passing, Joyce moved to Condor and lived on the farm next door to family.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Penni Lougheed (Daryl), Dallas Logan, and Carmyn Block (Frank); her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren; Ryan Harder; Baylee Allan (Adam Giles), Nash, Kade, Kanin, Jase; Carter Allan (Katelyn), Tenley, Aylish, Tilden; Camille Roney (Morgan), Grayson; Haiden Block (Tabitha Schick), Lukas Matchim; Michael Crane (Mariah Denhardt); and Grace; her sisters, Fay Smith, Carol Quaife, Wendy Graf, Cindy Rose (Doug), and Gale Lemieux (Lyle Smith); dear friend and sister-in-law Cheri Stuart; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many dear family and friends.

Joyce faced life with perseverance, faith, and a positive spirit. When asked how she was, her answer was always, “I am fine,” and she carried on. Joyce lived her life looking for the good—in people, in circumstances, and in each new day. She loved fiercely, gave generously, welcomed without judgment, and never stopped learning. She believed in people even when they did not believe in themselves. Her faith sustained her, her family was her greatest treasure, and the many lives she touched became part of her lasting legacy. Her absence will be deeply felt. We will miss her listening ear, her voice, her stories, her wisdom, her laughter, her open door, and the comfort of knowing she was there.

Joyce leaves us with more than memories; she leaves us with the lessons she lived—to have faith, to keep learning, to help others, to see the good, and to love fiercely. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and carried in our hearts always.

Joyce & her fellow colleagues welcomed me at Condor, within the community & school. She was a substitute teacher you could always rely on & you knew you were leaving your students in great hands. I witnessed countless times how much love she had for her girls & their families. She was a woman with a strong work ethic, a great love of reading & a smile or hug when needed. Carmyn , Dallas & Penni hold tight to those memories you have … for having a mom for 86 years at your side is a blessing I truly grieve every day …
