To our great sorrow, we find we must announce the loss of our beautiful and incredible son and brother, Broghan Rio Lomax, at the tender age of 13.
Broghan came into our lives a huge bouncing boy of almost 10 lbs. As our fourth child and second son, he completed our family. He was his sister Bronwyn’s best friend and at only 14 months apart they were often mistaken as twins. They were inseparable from birth, and have been known to all as The B’s for 13 years. Broghan spent much of his early life wrapped on his mom, and often you would see Broghan on her front and Bronwyn on her back, where they could giggle and hold each other’s hands. He loved snuggling with his parents and often annoyed his siblings by insisting on hugs. Broghan was incredibly ticklish and easily scared, so everyone got great joy out of tormenting him on both counts.
Broghan loved his big sibling’s Skye and Rhys and looked to them often for entertainment and cuddles. As the youngest, he was able to attend every event his siblings were at, and was often seen riding his little kid car all over the halls of ERE while his mom read with his sibling’s classes. He was well known to all the teachers from birth on. As they grew older and Skye and Rhys began to drive, some of his favorite moments were being taken for rides for treats. He was often bribed into doing chores in exchange for a slurpee or sushi.
Broghan loved the water, and we spent most of our summers at the creek splashing and exploring. His favorite sport was soccer, or football as his dad calls it, and lately spent hours upon hours practicing in our yard. He became a junior referee this year and loved every second of it. As he got older, paddleboarding became his new favorite thing to do, and we often packed up the paddleboards to go play at the lake. He got great joy out of trying to ensure his sisters fell off, and was always doing tricks and ensuring everyone around him was as wet as he was. He was in the water more than he was on the paddleboard and loved tricking his mom by tying his paddleboard to hers so he didn’t have to do any work.
Broghan was the ham, the life of the party, and loved by all. His grin was infectious, his wit sharp, and he enjoyed nothing more than telling people the difference between blue jobs and pink jobs. His hugs made you feel so incredibly special and he always rushed to whoever he was greeting to wrap his arms around them and ask how they were doing. He wore his heart on his sleeve, had a mile wide sentimental streak, and cared deeply for those around him. He was a loyal friend and loved fiercely, always quick to tell his friends and family how much he loved them. He could always be counted on when it came to gatherings with his friends and would drop anything to go spend time with them.
Broghan was incredibly independent and self-assured. He loved answering phone calls at Outwest Camping and talking to the seasonals and weekenders. He loved going for rides in other people’s ATV’s and was always asking if there was a spot for him. He could spend hours by his moms side at people’s campfires, and thoroughly enjoyed having conversations with everyone there. He drove his moms van around the campground at every opportunity and was always eager to see if anyone needed anything, always offering to drive.
Broghan is predeceased by his grandmother Darlene McDonald.
His death has devastated his parents Gareth and Christa, sisters Skye and Bronwyn, and his brother Rhys. He has also left behind his grandfather David McDonald, his Nana Gloria Brough, and his Grandad Edward Lomax. His Aunties Kerry (Ron) Tanya (Peter) Jessica (Thomas) and his Uncles Donald (Rita), Scott (Kerri). His cousins Shaylyn Bissett, Chase and Dani Johnson, Michelle Desjardins, Christina and Theo Theunisse, Dmitri, Cyrano, Lucien, and Isidrio McDonald, Will and Dylan Lomax Nate Chapman, and countless aunts and uncles. His loss will forever be felt by his close circle of friends and numerous other people whose lives he touched.
We would love to invite you to join in our celebration of life on October 25,2025 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rocky Mountain House at 1 pm.
Please continue to remember Broghan via his snapchat account, as we currently have access to that. Reading your messages brings us joy. If anyone has pictures of him please send them our way.
Broghan will be forever missed and there will always be a hole in our family where he should be. Remember Broghan. Keep him close to your hearts. Hear his echo every time you utter the words “pink job” or “ six seven” as that was his favorite joke. Think of him often and share your memories always.

Dev:
I was friends with Broghan and hung out with him and Graysen all the time, we were originally in the same french classes and good friends, as I moved around Alberta lots, we kept in contact and played video games lots, we had good times and bad as all friends do.
In more recent times we grew apart, but still had contact, It's hard to process this and I can't imagine how his closer friends and family feels.
I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you can sometime heal.

The Spellman’s :
Dearest Lomax family,
Broghan was the sweetest, chunkiest & smiliest baby boy. We loved spending time with him at gymnastics and he loved to climb into Jody’s lap and whisper “da da da da”, obviously mistaking Jody’s bald head for that of his father’s.
One of my favourite memories would be when he would put his hair in a pony tail, and wear one of his sister’s body suits and join her class at gymnastics.
He was something incredibly special and will leave a lasting impression on this earth.
Though, unfortunately, we didn’t really know the young man he had become, we feel incredible sadness that he has left this world.
We offer our deepest condolences to his mom and dad, Christa and Gareth, his sisters, Skye and Bronwyn and his big brother Rhys ❣️
